Executive Summary

While the business plan’s executive summary is the first thing the readers of your business plan see, it should be the last part of the business plan you write.
Actually the executive summary is an introduction to your business. When writing the executive summary you should provide just an overview of each part of the business plan. This part will be incomplete without:
- a short description of your business. It is also worthwhile to include your products and/or services;
- the mission statement of your company;
- an overview of the management team and principles;
- a summary of the market segment and your customers;
- an overview of marketing and sales strategies;
- an outline of the competition;
- a business’s operations review;
- a summary of financial plans.
If you would like to get the winning executive summary, don’t overdo its content. Just take one or two sentences from each of the business plan parts you’ve already written and you’ll get the summary.
The last one or two sentences is called to persuade the readers of your business plan that your business will succeed.

There are some tips on writing the Business Plan’s Executive Summary
1. Concentrate on providing an outline. All the necessary details are included in the business plan. And there is no need to repeat the same and waste your readers’ time.
2. Your language should be strong and positive. You need to persuade readers of your business plan that your offer is a winner. And a weak language will not help you to achieve this purpose.
3. The final size of the executive summary shouldn’t exceed two pages.
4. Your executive summary has to be excellent. The best way to check what impression makes your summary is to find someone who knows nothing about your business and ask to read it. If comments are favorable, then you can offer the business plan to investors.
5. The executive summary should be modified depending on the audience and the purpose of your business plan. If you want to entice investors, then you need focus on the opportunity your business provides investors, and explain why exactly it is special.
6. Try to put yourself in your readers’ place. Do you think your executive summary will generate interest in the readers? Maybe it is necessary to change something.

Remember, if your business plan’s executive summary is poorly written, it will be the only one read part of your business plan!
